Face Creams vs. Face Oils - What You Need to Know
Face creams are a combination of water and waxes. There might even be times when beauty companies add a few essential oils to the formula as well.
Waxes tend to form an occlusive layer on the skin. This, in turn, helps it to seal the moisture inside our skin. But, there is one major problem with waxes. It has a comedogenic nature which means that there’s a higher chance of your pores clogging.
Even then, because of the barrier that it creates, the goodness of the cream will not be able to penetrate through the skin. Due to these disadvantages, to see the results of using a face cream, you'll have to wait as the product takes time to improve skin texture.
This doesn’t really have to be true for every face cream. However, the majority of the formulas do make it a tad difficult for the essential fatty acids to be readily absorbed into the skin.
Coming to face oils, things are a little different here.
Face oils contain natural oils that are mostly pure and free of chemicals. Since it has an emollient nature, the product sticks to the exterior layer of our skin.
The exterior layer is also known as the lipid barrier as it’s composed of dead skin cells. It is this layer that protects us from the harshness of environmental and other factors. As a result, the topmost layer of our skin is subjected to damage on an everyday basis which creates the need for routine and effective maintenance. This is made possible with face oils.
Face oils help to repair and replenish the lipid barrier of our skin by expediting the cell turnover rate. And since it remains on the topmost layer, there is no chance of the oil blocking our pores and causing pimples. So bye-bye blemishes!
Choose A Face Cream When...
You should go for a face cream if you want deep moisturization. There might be times when our skin is dehydrated and develops a lackluster appearance. This is one of the key symptoms indicating the need for intense nourishment.
Since face oils do not penetrate deeper into the skin, this need will not be satisfied by it. But, a face cream would be perfect for the job. Most of the face creams containing hyaluronic acid that helps to absorb and pull in water in our skin cells giving it a plumper and dewy appearance.
Choose A Face Oil When...
Choose a face oil when you want an organic product to change the dry texture of the skin. Although you'll need to ascertain that your skin is not reactive to it.
Since face oils are naturally rich in essential fatty acids, it can provide the right blend of nourishing elements and antioxidants. This will help your skin to lose its dryness and look younger and fresh. You can even use a face oil on the different parts of the body like the heels of your feet, elbows, and cuticles.
There you go! As you can see, a face cream is different from a face oil. But, they are both great to help you banish sure skincare issues. Use a face cream when you have very dry and dehydrated skin. Whereas, face oils will be perfect for providing the right kind of moisturization and nourishment for daily use. Nevertheless, one rule that remains uniform is to buy products that are of higher quality and which suit your skin type.
If you buy a product, face oil or face cream, that doesn't suit your skin, you'll end up with irritated skin experiencing breakouts and blemishes. Try to research about the ingredients to understand whether it'll actually help you get the skin that you'd been wishing for and not vice versa!
